Ionian Sea Hotel Kefalona

How do you describe a hotel that you should not be at, due to the original hotel being cancelled 48 hours earlier and all Thomas Cook guests transferred to the Ionian Sea?

Arriving late at night 10:00pm welcome meal waiting for us, and shown to the room which was more than agreeable, from the start the staff were great and friendly nothing was a bother, the main cliental are mainly polish and east European but don’t let this put you off, The few English were the ones transferred from the KGV.  It is all inclusive but you need to watch as there are two options, soft and hard, soft has no alcohol apart with meals and hard is alcohol all day, drinks package is very good one beer and 5 cocktails plus local spirits,, there is only one bar, at the pool drinks served in plastic cups, but don’t be shy to ask for a glass instead,, the glass size is a gill, so you will at least 3 to make a pint. Wine and beer served with all meals.

Restaurant is all buffet service and caters for the east European market as the food tends to be warm to cold, but help is on hand with a microwave, which was used mainly by the English each meal time.

Overall there were plenty of choice 4 different meats each sitting as well as salads, veg, a small selection of desserts, the manager kept everything filled with fresh food. So no issues, no reports of tummy upsets, or illness which is a good thing,

Entertainment is again geared towards the east European market, again I don’t think they were excepting the English to be there, one Greek night, one guest singer which turned into a disco for the kids, please note the hotel is a child friendly hotel with most of the children from new born to under 5,s, so be warned, if you are trying to escape the grandkids don’t go, The animation team work extremely hard to keep the kids entertained all day. The beach is a short walk but don’t except something special, there is also the aqua park which is free to use, again geared up for the kids.

We received a 5 bed room for the two of us so plenty of space, cleaned daily fresh sheets etc., did not use the TV as you receive free Wi-Fi 24 hours a day so used that instead. Bathroom basic, shower, small bath, no plugs but the hotel soap fits perfectly, plenty of hot water, air con on, as it is worked by your key card, we just took the card off the key and left it in to keep air con on thought the day.

Overall would recommend the hotel for families with young children, or if you want to just chill  out away from everything, bearing in mind there is nothing outside the hotel, I mean nothing the nearest town Luxori is a taxi away, but the hotel has everything for you to chill out, pool, relax.
